Accounts Assistant – Fixed Term Contract

Thornliebank, Glasgow - Office based role with future flexibility for hybrid working after successful training period

Salary:

Competitive, dependent on experience

Hours:

39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 17.00, Friday 08:30 to 16.00

The Role

This temporary role has arisen to cover a maternity leave in our Glasgow based Finance team who work with colleagues around all areas of the Star Group companies. The successful candidate will report to the Group Finance Manager and be responsible for performing daily accounting tasks to support the Finance team.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting in the delivery of effective & efficient financial support to the Finance department & wider Star Group.
  • Provide input and analysis of monthly reporting documentation.
  • Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide input into the wider areas of Treasury; Fixed Asset & Capital Control; Day to Day Financial System support and other Ad Hoc Financial related monitoring.
  • Liaise with other Finance department members to assist in the support of Credit Control; Accounts Payable and Payroll teams.
  • Assist in monitoring and control of WIP Management.
  • Other tasks and duties as defined by the Group Finance Manager.

The Candidate

It is expected that the successful candidate will have a proven experience in a similar role with exposure to various aspects of accounts support.  Experience in a related industry is advantageous.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate robust management accounts experience and strong communication skills along with ability to work to deadlines under pressure.  They must also have the ability to work as part of a team as they will be working closely with a number of internal departments.

  • Previous experience in a similar role;
  • Have a proactive and positive approach to work;
  • Strong financial understanding and business acumen;
  • Highly motivated, ambitious and commercially minded;
  • Ability to adapt to change in highly competitive fast paced environment;
  • Understanding of team dynamics, demonstrating the ability to work as an active and constructive member of a team with a professional enthusiastic attitude;
  • Excellent time management and communication skills;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages;
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
