Star Data Analytics

Star Data Analytics is a high-tech department within Star Refrigeration that focuses on delivering the “Ethos” service. Ethos, was created from the combination of refrigeration expertise with data collection, analysis, and presentation and is an acclaimed engineering consultancy service that uses Digital Twins and Machine Learning to help clients understand how their industrial equipment is performing and how they can save energy. Our customer base and Ethos’ capabilities have expanded significantly, and we’re excited about the untapped opportunities waiting to be explored.

The Role

We are looking to recruit an Engineering Analyst to join the Star Data Analytics team. This role could be based from Glasgow or another branch location.
The successful candidate will contribute to the “contracts and operations” area of the department. This covers a broad range of activity including: design & project management, building digital twin models, monitoring the existing dashboard and carrying out ad-hoc analyses.
Training will be provided and the focus will be on one or two areas initially with the rest to follow. Candidates are not expected to know everything but instead be curious and have a willingness to learn.
In this position, you can significantly impact on the introduction and execution of new features. There are ample opportunities for innovation and personal development in this role.

Responsibilities

Key duties include a range of responsibilities, which include but are not limited to;
  • Deliver contracts: ordering equipment, coordinating subcontractors, commissioning data acquisition.
  • Build Digital Twin Models: Create, validate and maintain Ethos dashboards through their lifecycle. Build knowledge to construct a diverse range of dashboards for complex refrigeration or heat pumps, troubleshoot problems and identify scope for improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor: Regularly monitor and review dashboards to proactively identify and report any potential issues, assisting in minimising customer energy expenditure. Communicate effectively with colleagues across the business, coordinate and contribute to team and branch meetings.
  • Analyse: identify insights, communicate findings and quantify their success and impact. Produce customer reports, presentations, web portal demonstrations, and training delivery.

The Candidate

The successful applicant will have the following:
  • Mechanical or Chemical engineering background or relevant site based or design knowledge and experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, in particular a strong skillset in Excel.
  • Good attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • The ability to take initiative and have a proactive approach

Our Working Pattern

Our work setup involves a hybrid model where our team typically attends the office on a common day once or twice each week. However, additional office presence is necessary for initial training and certain work packages. If remote work does not work well for you, the office is open to you all week.
Normal working hours are 8.30am to 5pm with a 4pm finish on Fridays and we can agree adjusted working hours to cater to your needs. During periods of exceptional circumstances, as a salaried role you may be asked to work a few extra hours in the week.
