Founding Directors

Star was born when Sterne’s, a Glasgow-based industrial refrigeration company, exited the market in June 1970. After the closure was announced, three of its former employees made plans to form a new business, and on October 12th1970, Star formally came into existence. The name had unconsciously appealed to all three of the new company directors, but after it was chosen they also realised that Star was a translation of the German word ‘Stern’, and additionally represented the initials of their first names: Stephen, Anthony and Robert.
