Glasgow hosted the World Curling Championships on an ice rink built by Star
In 1985, Glasgow hosted the World Curling Championships on a temporary ice rink built by Star in Glasgow’s iconic Kelvin Hall – in eight days. It was the first time that the championships had been held on a temporary rink, and the ice was hailed as a great success. When asked how Star had managed to build it in just eight days, Star’s ice rink expert and Sales Manager Alex Bain who had overseen the project, replied “six months planning and eight days”. A remarkable achievement for which he received the Kooltech Award from the IOR Scottish Branch.
