Star developed new refrigerant “Starton 69”

Foreseeing the demise of CFCs in the late 1980s, Star developed a new refrigerant named “Starton 69” (later changed to Isceon 69 when it was licenced to the Imperial Smelting Company). Its test equipment included this calorimeter, designed to measure its performance when used as a drop-in replacement for CFCs in refrigeration systems. Following the success of Isceon 69, several other blends were formulated, all of which were tested in Thornliebank using this sophisticated calorimeter.
