What is your education background?
Graduated with BA in Accountancy from Glasgow Caledonian University
How did you start working at Star? / What brought you to Star?
The job advert was posted on GCU web and my tutor sent it to me directly as it had a management accounting focus which I had an interest in. I then went onto the Star website to research and applied.
What benefits have you found from your intern placement?
The main benefit is the diversity and range of staff and their knowledge and having access to them daily. Also, working in a global company has broadened my skills and helped me to find my strengths.
What does your current role involve?
I do a bit of everything. My main focus is working on Starfrost- looking at Star’s reports and processes and ensuring consistency with these.
What do you enjoy most about what you have been working on, and what are the biggest challenges you face?
The variety and the responsibility and autonomy I have been given; seeing the finished product of my work is really rewarding. I also enjoy collaborating with the team.
The biggest challenge is working from home; I don’t have a designated office so it can be difficult to differentiate between work and home but I’m getting used to it.
How have you found the transition from studying to working as part of a Finance team (also working remotely)
I really can’t fault it, it has been seamless and Star have been so accommodating with working from home.
When I was a student, I had the impression I would be a perfectionist and not make mistakes I think that was the biggest shock. Star is all about personal development and growth.
