Star Refrigeration has signed a letter of intent with Finnish company Scancool to work in partnership to provide COretail solutions and industrial heat pumps in Finland, Sweden and the Baltic countries. Scancool has 25 years experience in industrial refrigeration. This co-operation with Star marks Scancool’s entry into retail refrigeration and the agreement includes the licence manufacture of CO2 retail solutions. “Such solutions have not been seen in Finland before. There have been occasional pilot projects in Finland, but the solutions used in them are considerably less energy efficient than Star’s solution. A few hundred similar retail refrigeration projects have already been carried out in Sweden. A couple of thousand stores will receive new refrigeration equipment in Finland during the next 5-10 years. We are confident that an energy efficient and environmentally friendly solution will increase our turnover considerably during the next few years,” says Scancool Managing Director Jonny Asplund. The new agreement also expands Scancool’s HEAT product range of compact heat pump modules to include Star’s Neatpump technology. Neatpump is a packaged ammonia industrial heat pump. Nominal package heating capacities range from 400kW to 5MW and generate hot water at temperatures up to 900C. They are already being applied in a variety of applications, including a 14MW district heating system in Norway and food production facilities in the UK and France. “We hope that our partnership with Scancool will open up new opportunities for both companies and deliver energy saving solutions to our customers,” says Star’s Sales Director Rob Lamb.
