Star Refrigeration Recruiting at CTP Ex-Military Employment Fair
The UK’s largest independent industrial refrigeration and heating contractor Star Refrigeration is looking to find new employees at a series of resettlement events organised by the Career Transition Partnership in September and October.
Star Refrigeration will be attending the CTP Employment Fairs to recruit prospective personnel to fulfil a range of positions across their 9 UK branches.
The events, which are aimed at providing job opportunities for service leavers and ex-military personnel, are organised by the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), a partnering agreement between the Ministry of Defence and global career development specialists Right Management Ltd. With a dozen major employment fairs arranged per year, the CTP offers attendees the chance to meet with employers face to face and gain insight into their professions and practices.
Representatives from over 100 companies, including Virgin Media, Network Rail, Amazon and Barclays, will also be in attendance to provide those leaving the Armed Forces and entering their first civilian job with advice on how to kick start their future careers.
Star Refrigeration have a strong track record in recruiting service leavers who have successfully transitioned into positions such as refrigeration and heating engineers, commissioning engineers, project managers, service controllers, and regional managers at different UK locations. This includes Star’s Operations Training Manager Dave Bartlett, who, 19 years ago, was a musician in the army, playing saxophone.
On his personal experience, he says, “I began my career in the refrigeration industry as a trainee engineer as Star looked to open a new office in the Oxford area. I’ll never forget that I left the army on Thursday 28th February and entered into my new engineering job the very next day – yes, a Friday! It took me about 6 months to progress from ‘trainee engineer’ to just ‘engineer.’ After a further 3 1/2 years I became Oxford Branch Manager. I held this position for 15 years. This year, our previous Training Manager retired and I was attracted to the role as I had taken an interest in the professional development of apprentices and engineers. I became a qualified assessor for City & Guilds and found my experience with training and understanding of engineering helped me get the job.”

Dave will be representing Star Refrigeration at the North West/West Midlands and the South Coast Employment Fairs.
On the importance of the CTP events, Bartlett advises, “These days when searching for employment, a little good fortune can go a long way. It has often been said ‘It’s not what you know, but who you know.’ The CTP Recruitment Fair is a fantastic opportunity for service leavers to network with potential employers and receive sound professional advice on changing over from a career in the army to a civilian one.”
