International Women's Day

The Women in RACHP Network celebrates International Women’s Day 2022 with an exclusive female-only training day

Women across the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector have been invited to attend an industry training day to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2022. Star Refrigeration are sponsoring the event, held in Hampshire, along with several other RACHP companies.

The programme for the training day involves theoretical aspects of the industry as well as practical elements such as brazing and the safe handling of flammable refrigerants. The technical demonstrations add an exciting touch to the day for those with or without practical engineering experience.

Astrid Prado, Steering Committee member of the Women in RACHP Network and Head of Marketing at Star Refrigeration, said, “Star are longstanding supporters of The IOR’s Women in RACHP Network and as a company we are proud to sponsor events of this kind in support of gender equality. International Women’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to support female talent across the industry and celebrate their success”.

The training day hosted by Business Edge includes presentations on current issues in the refrigeration and heating industry including energy efficiency, heat pump principles and f-gas regulations.

As a traditionally male-dominated industry, the RACHP sector has been actively trying to attract more women into the workforce. Educational drives for women in STEM have had a positive impact, but there is still a long way to go to ensure the number of females in the industry starts to level up.

Star Refrigeration has over the years supported women-led events to inspire future female engineers to join the industry, including FemEng, Stemazing and Little Stars.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #Breakthebias to forge women’s equality. The Women in RACHP training event aims to break the bias and gender discrimination in the workplace, inspiring more women to become the engineers of the future.
