50 years of innovation
A history of Star Refrigeration
Star engineered the heat pumps for this award-winning district heating scheme, the first of its kind in Scotland and the largest water-source heat pump in the UK. At the scheme being named ‘European Heat Pump City of the Year’ in 2021.
A great snapshot from 2022, when Star sponsored FemEng for the sixth year running. This time a six-strong team from University of Glasgow travelled to work with 15 female engineering students at the University of Nairobi, to brainstorm ideas for inspiring young people to take up STEM subjects.
It meant a great deal to Star to receive the Platinum Investors in People and Gold Investors in Young People awards in 2023, maintaining the high standard we had set with our 2020 accreditations.
In 2024, Star took part in the BBC Bitesize Careers Tour, with Technical Sales Engineer Tom Woolston speaking to over 1,100 school students from Year 9 to Year 12 about STEM careers. Sitting alongside BBC radio presenters and production managers, Tom shared his career journey.
A behind-camera moment from the BBC’s ‘What They Really Mean For You’ series, featuring (among others) Star’s Dr. Rob Lamb, Tesco Group Head of Energy Bianca Samarakoon and BBC Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt, who presented the show. The programme highlighted the crucial role of refrigeration in the cold chain.
