Ben Woolsey, Refrigeration Engineer

Ben Woolsey is an ST4 grade engineer at Star Refrigeration, who plays a crucial role in ensuring that customer cooling plants are serviced and maintained to the highest standards. Ben's interest in refrigeration began at his father's AC and refrigeration company, where he received his initial training and qualifications. Drawn to Star for its industry reputation, Ben has benefited from the company's engineer-focused training programme, which has enabled him to advance from a newly qualified ST1 engineer to ST4 over the last 16 years. He advises those looking to progress in industrial refrigeration to be determined, embrace continuous learning, and feel rewarded in realising the critical impact their work has on the food supply chain.

Can you tell us a bit about your role at Star?

I’m an ST4 grade engineer and I ensure that our customers’ cooling plant is serviced, maintained, and projects are carried out to the highest possible standards.

Had you always shown an interest in refrigeration?

Yes my Dad owned his own AC and Refrigeration company. This is where I had my initial training and qualifications.

What was it that attracted you to Star Refrigeration when you wanted to continue your career?

Star Refrigeration is well known within the industry and when I was offered a job, I knew it was a great opportunity for me.

What does Star offer you in terms of developing your unique career path?

What has your career progression been and how long did it take you to move onwards and upwards at Star?

I started with Star as a newly qualified ST1 engineer. Star has given me extensive training and experience over the last 16 years taking me up to ST4.

What advice would you give to anyone who is looking to advance their career in industrial refrigeration?

It’s not easy but if you’re determined to put the work in and learn everyday then you can go anywhere within the industry. The reward is knowing what a difference we make to the food supply chain and everybody involved.
