Can you tell us a bit about your role at Star?
I’m an industrial refrigeration engineer at the Manchester branch, mainly carrying out service and maintenance on large ammonia/CO2 systems. I also get involved with branch contract installations and upgrade works
When and why did you decide it was time for a career transition / move?
I joined Star four years ago after spending six years at a commercial refrigeration company where I completed my apprenticeship. I wanted a new challenge and heard about Star through a colleague who had joined the company previously.
Your previous role was a lot more specific than your focus at Star Refrigeration – what was it that attracted you to Star for the next phase of your career?
I was attracted to Star because I had heard they were a well-respected company in the industrial refrigeration industry. I liked the idea of the large scale of equipment and the quality of sites we maintain and install.
What does Star offer you in terms of developing your unique career path?
Star offered me a clear progression path in the form of the ST grading structure and also offered me the opportunity to get involved with installations and upgrade works outside of the regular service and maintenance duties.
Can you describe your trajectory moving onwards and upwards at Star?
I started at Star at the bottom of the engineering structure and have steadily moved through the ranks and become a better engineer because of the experience I have received.
What advice would you give to anyone who is looking to advance their career in industrial refrigeration?
If it’s something you want to do just go for it, you won’t look back. There’s plenty to learn and get involved with at Star.
Why do you feel valued at Star?
I’m able to make my own decisions and my opinions are respected.
