The Starlords and The Mustard prepare for the boat race battle of the year along the River Clyde on 22nd August at 10:00am.

Star Refrigeration’s engineers are used to navigating the seas of sustainable cooling technology, but this month the bravest of the bunch are set to take on a new challenge that will see them navigating the seas literally – in a rowboat!

Row, row, row the boat, gently down the Clyde – Star Refrigeration’s “The Starlords” and “The Mustard” undergo months of “extreme training” during this year’s sodden summer in preparation for the race.

Staff from the design, project management and Telstar departments will split into two teams of four to race at the corporate friendly regatta. They will be competing against eight other teams from Sgurr Energy, GSK, Andritz, Donaldson Associates, AFRC and Sport Scotland. All racers received an intensive seven week training programme with professionals from Glasgow’s renowned Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club.

The Corporate Regatta is organised to raise funds for Glasgow based charity Clydesdale Rowing Club, which is the only club in Glasgow with an active junior membership, and their voluntary coaches run a “Start” group for students aged 14-22 to identify and nurture new rowing talent. Some members have gone on to become Gold and Silver medallists at the Olympics!

The Boathouse is regularly used by Glasgow University and local schools, and has been giving back to the community for over 100 years. Star will be raising money in connection with the Regatta, with all proceeds going to Clydesdale Rowing Club and the renovation of the Boathouse.

All teams are entering the race in reasonable shape to enjoy it and put on a fantastic display for what is set to be a great summer’s day out for all the family, with face painting and a lunch time BBQ also on the cards. So, come along and cheer on your favourite team.
